chairman kwame brown has been sentenced to a 30-day suspended sentence for a campaign finance charge. that sentence was the second one he got yesterday. earlier in the day a federal judge sentenced brown to one day in custody followed by six months of home detention with electronic monitoring for lying on loan applications. he also has to complete 480 hours of what the judge says should be very public community service. brown admitted to both of those crimes in june. >>> a step back for prosecutors in the st coast rape ais case. suspect aaron thomas was expected to accept a plea deal but when he went before the judge yesterday, he said he wasn't sure what was right or wrong or what he was doing. now it appears the case is headed for trial. thomas is charged with rape and abduction on an attack on three teenagers in halloween back on 2009. >>> a 17-yard man is in jail accused of two gruesome murders. the cab driver was murdered in the district. >> a woman out walking her dog was killed in waldorf, maryland. ken molestina has more on the arrest and suspect. >> the charles county sherif

-election, with the exception of at large member michael brown. there was an upset in this race. new coming david grosso defeated michael brown who has been plagued with questions about his campaign treasury account. >> a mismanaged campaign, mixed messages. the once bright future of the son of the former cabinet member of president clinton, ron brown, michael brown is headed now out of office and his future is very uncertain indeed. voters decided that they were not pleased with the way the campaign was run. some of the problems that developed within the campaign further added to their doubts, and it just didn't pay off on election day. >> in the beginning, i don't think michael brown was that much of a lead for washington voters. he was the son of ron brown. but still, in the communities, you heard people saying well, who is he? what has he done for the district of columbia? so the years went on. he had problems like john davis said with his campaign funding and all of that. i think it's come down to the fact that david grosso, who won the seat, actually got out there and did some grass roots walking.

, mike brown, just into the season, fired. warriors and lakers, golden state had lost nine games, the last nine games in los angeles, second quarter, clay thompson, to seth curry, for the up and under. a nifty play there, the warriors, but this is all about kobe bryant, driving, that is why he is kobe bryant. fourth quarter, more of the same. kobe bryant with the steal, going coast to coast with the slam, he finished just 27 points, lakers win, 101-77. usf and stanford, the season opener, at oracle arena, he slams it home. under nine minutes to go, lays it in, the hoop. and the foul. and he is fired up about it. a little bit later, stanford with the inbound play. aaron bright, for powell, 27 on the night, stanford wins, 74-62. and to football with some huge injury news for the oakland raiders on friday. runningbacks, darren mcfadden, out. and richard seamore will also sit out against baltimore, that does it for sports, more news coming after the bre [ female announcer ] welcome, one and all, to a tastier festive feast. so much to sip and savor. a feeding frenzy, to say the least.
